FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University women's lacrosse team lost its second NLC game of the season with a 12-7 decision against visiting High Point on Sunday afternoon at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. Senior Cara O'Brien|Arlington (Bishop O'Connell) tied for a game-high four goals in the loss. She now has a team-high 39 on the season and also leads the Lancers (8-5, 4-2 NLC) in points with 47. LU next plays Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia on Tuesday, April 12, at 4 p.m.

Longwood jumped out to a two-goal lead to start the game, first off junior Jessica Rudloff|West Chester, Pa. (West Chester East) followed by O'Brien, but the Panthers answered with two of their own to notch the score at 2 with 15:25 remaining in the first half. Both Longwood and High Point scored one more each - the Lancer goal coming from senior Kesley Dean|Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne's) - making the score 3-3 before HPU scored the next two, entering halftime with a 5-3 lead.

The Panthers opened scoring in the second period, adding two more to finish a four-goal run that started with 9:18 left in the first. At 21:46 on the clock, freshman Lauren Prasnicki|Lexington (Rockbridge County) brought the Lancers within three as they trailed 7-4. Answering Prasnicki's goal was another four-goal streak for High Point, two of which were scored by Chelsea Thompson who had four overall. O'Brien scored the final three goals for LU, including the last two of the game, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Panthers' rally earlier in the half.

Senior Juli Liebig|Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne's) played the entire 60 minutes and came up with eight saves in goal, while Lauren Hayes played a full game for HPU and recorded seven saves. Liebig also collected a game-high seven ground balls and caused one turnover.

HPU outshot LU 32-19 and won the battle in ground balls 24-19. Longwood did, however, win 13 draw controls to High Points' eight and also finished three free position attempts, while the Panthers converted just two.

“High Point played a high pressure defense and executed their game plan pretty well,” said head coach Missy Ackerman. “Our defense gave us opportunities to put the ball in the net, but our offense wasn't affective in passing and catching. We just had too many turnovers to overcome for the second game in a row.”

High Point allowed 20 turnovers but Longwood gave up 28.
