ITHACA, N.Y. – Longwood University posted a 54-hole score of 296-293-294--883 Saturday and Sunday in men's golf to finish in third place among 14 teams at the Cornell Invitational played at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course in Ithaca, New York. Binghamton University won the event with its 290-291-287--868 at the 6,893-yard, par 72 layout, while Binghamton's Jake Katz took individual medalist honors at 70-72-69--211. The Lancers were led by senior
Michael Young|Oakville, Ontario (Oakville Trafalgar) with his 74-71-71--216 that tied for third in the field of 82. Longwood will play again October 11-12 at the Richmond Intercollegiate, a 54-hole tournament at the Independence Golf Club in Midlothian.
Following Young for Longwood were juniors
Austin Gray|Midlothian (Monacan) (74-75-72--221, t-11th),
Ross Sumner|Callao (Northumberland) (75-75-75--225, t-21st), and
Kenny Leech|Boca Raton, Fla. (Grandview Prep) (73-76-76--225, t-21st), along with freshman
Kyle Bodin|Austin, Texas (McNeil) (77-72-76--225, t-21st).
Binghamton was followed among the top five by Columbia (881), LU, Lafayette (889), and Cornell (894).
