FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University men's golf incoming freshman
Dylan Jensen/Ridgeway (Carlisle School) won the 20th Virginia State Golf Association (VSGA) Junior Match Play Championship at the Nansemond River Golf Club in Suffolk late last week (June 25). He defeated Alex Taylor 4 and 3 in the final, taking a 3 up advantage after nine holes and was 4 up through 12 holes en route to his first VSGA championship. Jensen had qualified for match play earlier in the week with his rounds of 69-76--145 at the 6,679-yard, par 72 layout, earning the #15 seed in extra holes as five players had tied for the final two spots among the sixteen to advance, including #16 seed Taylor. He won his first round match 3 and 1 against #2 seed Ashton Newton before taking his quarterfinal match 2 up over #7 seed Brandon Grogan, advancing to the final with another 3 and 1 win past #6 seed Alex Lloyd in the semifinals. Jensen's title earned him an exemption into this week's VSGA Amateur Championship at the Belle Haven Country Club in Alexandria June 29-July 3.
