Longwood Tops NLC Foe Presbyterian 18-5

CLINTON, S.C. – The Longwood University women's lacrosse team defeated National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) foe Presbyterian College 18-5 on Saturday afternoon in Clinton, South Carolina. The Lancers (5-6, 4-0 NLC) were led by junior Karli Brentlinger/Gambrills, Md. (South River) with five goals while junior Kesley Dean/Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne's) added four goals and two assists. Longwood returns to action on Sunday, April 11, when they face NLC-member Jacksonville University at 11 a.m. in a neutral site game in Davidson, North Carolina.

Longwood quickly took control of the game, scoring the first seven goals to take a 7-0 lead with 3:45 remaining in the first half. The Lancers scored three goals over a 2:10 stretch during the run. Presbyterian (2-10, 1-3) got on board with 2:28 remaining but the Lancers scored a pair of goals in 0:33 to push the lead to 9-1. The Blue Hose added one more goal before halftime to cut the lead to 9-2 at halftime.

The second half started the same as the first half, with Longwood scoring the first five goals to take a 14-2 lead with 18:19 remaining. The Blue Hose scored a pair of goals but Longwood answered with four of the next five scores to make the final score 18-5.

Longwood was led by Karli Brentlinger with five goals on 10 shots with three ground balls. Dean added four goals on seven shots with two assists. Sophomores Hannah Riggs/Eden Prairie, Minn. (Eden Prairie), Jess Rudloff/West Chester, Pa. (West Chester East) and Sam Stifler/Jarrettsville, Md. (North Harford) each scored two goals while Rudloff added two assists. Senior Christine Comeau/Whitby, Ontario (Sinclair Secondary School) picked up three ground balls and caused three turnovers while junior Duan Wright/Church Hill, Md. (Queen Anne's) had four draw controls.

Junior goalkeeper Juli Liebig/Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne's) gave up two goals in 30 minutes and senior Eliza Coughter/Charlottesville (Charlottesville) stopped six shots and allowed three goals in the second half.

Longwood led Presbyterian in several categories, including shots (49-17), ground balls (30-23) and draw controls (17-8). The Blue Hose had 21 saves to Longwood's six.
