Stacey de Grandhomme | Cape Town, South Africa (Table View) with one goal against the Wildcats (11-6, 3-1 NorPac). Longwood returns to action on Saturday, October 30, when it hosts NorPac foe Appalachian State University at 12 p.m. at the Athletics Complex in Farmville for Senior Day where three seniors will be recognized. Admission is free.
“It was a tough game against a strong team, but we are happy with the result,” said third-year head coach
Iain Byers. “We gutted out a tremendous defensive performance and that really helps us out in the conference standings.”
Davidson jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after Annie Evans scored on a breakaway in the eighth minute. The Lancers responded in the 14th minute when de Grandhomme took a pass from senior
Kimberly Sullivan | Fredericksburg (Stafford) and hit a hard shot from the top of the circle, knotting the score at 1-1. van de Kamp scored her first goal of the match in the 16th minute on a penalty stroke attempt that she converted to the right of the goalkeeper. The teams played the rest of the first half to a scoreless tie and the Lancers led 2-1 at halftime.
In the second half, Longwood settled in on defense and weathered a number of scoring opportunities by the Wildcats. van de Kamp added an insurance goal in the 67th minute, again on a penalty stroke, to put Longwood ahead 3-1. Davidson had eight penalty corners in the second half, but only managed two shots on those opportunities. The Wildcats outshot Longwood 6-1 in the second half and had an 8-1 advantage in penalty corners.

Kaye Goulding | Tickhill, England (Wakefield Girls) made seven saves for the Lancers, including four in the second half. de Grandhomme attempted three shots for the Lancers. Sarah Fisher recorded two saves and allowed three goals for the Wildcats. Evans led Davidson with one goal while Hannah English attempted four shots.
