Lancers Look to Bounce Back on a Two-Test Weekend

FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood field hockey returns to action with a pair of games against in-state competition this week. The Lancers travel to William & Mary on Friday, Sept. 4, at 5 p.m., before hosting the Richmond Spiders on Sunday, Sept. 6 at 1 p.m.

MATCH-UP HISTORY

Longwood and the Tribe have faced off 29 times with William & Mary leading the series 19-7-3.
In 2025, the Lancers won 1-0 over W&M at home. Senior Channy Johnson scored the game-winning goals in the third quarter, while junior goalkeeper Sophie Mooldijk made four saves in the shutout victory.
The Spiders and Lancers have battled 25 times with Richmond leading the series 17-6-2.

SCOUTING THE TRIBE

W&M opened the season with a 7-0 setback at No. 6 Duke on Aug. 28.
Senior goalkeeper Alexandra de Jesus made 19 saves in the opener against the Blue Devils. She ranked among the national leaders in saves last season with 155 saves.
Senior forward Josie Mae Gruendel was a Preseason All-CAA honorable mention selection. Last year, she led the Tribe with four goals and an assist on the way to earning All-CAA Second Team distinction.
Senior midfielder Anya Green scored two key goals last season in a season-ending win against LaSalle.
Senior defender Mackinzie Brown is a two-year starter for the Tribe and recorded two defensive saves last year.

SCOUTING SPIDERS

Richmond enjoyed a strong start to the season, defeating Queens, 12-0, and hanging close with nationally-ranked Duke in a 1-0 setback on the road.
The team swept A-10 honors last week with senior goalkeeper Amanda Cimillo winning defensive player of the week, senior forward Clara Larripa winning offensive player of the week, and freshman midfielder Abril Peroni taking home rookie of the week honors.
Peroni scored four goals in her first game with the Spiders, while Larripa and sophomore forward Olivia Eusiano also notched three tallies apiece in the win over Queens.
Cimillo made six saves last weekend, which makes her tally 87 career saves.

SHOT STOPPER

Mooldijk continues to be the go-to goalkeeper for the Lancers. In the season opener vs. Queens, she recorded 11 saves.
Mooldijk was MAC Goalkeeper of the Year in her freshman campaign.
Over three years, Mooldijk has tallied 305 saves.

CAN'T STOP CHANNY

Johnson maintained her usual offensive prowess, scoring the Lancers lone goal in the opener against the Royals.
Over the last two seasons, Johnson leads the Lancers with 19 points and nine goals.
Johnson was named to the All-MAC Second Team last season.

TWO MORE TESTS
Next week, the Lancers hit the road for two non-conference games. Longwood travels to Davidson for his second straight against an A-10 opponent on Friday, Sept. 11, at 5 p.m. The Lancers wrap up the week at No. 14 Liberty on Sunday, Sept. 13, at 1 p.m.
