Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Mooldijk Records Career-High Saves Total in Loss to Kent State

FARMVILLE, Va.- Junior goalkeeper Sophie Mooldijk posted a career-high 25 saves, but the Longwood field hockey ultimately fell to Mid-American Conference opponent Kent State, 4-1, on Friday at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Just 48 seconds into the match, Kent State (4-10, 3-3 MAC) earned a corner opportunity, and Ryli Zee capitalized on a feed by Marybritt Duwel, putting the Golden Flashes up 1-0. One minute later, Torie Del Collo found a perfect feed from Eva Usoz and hammered it home, giving Kent State a 2-0 lead.
  • At 14:04, freshman forward Skylar Freistat stayed calm amidst end-of-quarter chaos and sent a ball into the back corner of the net, cutting the Golden Flashes' lead to 2-1. It was Freistat's first career goal, while sophomore Jordan White tallied her first career assist.
  • In the second, the Lancers and Golden Flashes traded blows. Mooldijk kept Kent State at bay, making eight saves. She posted 15 in the opening 30 minutes.
  • In the third, the Lancers had four shots on goal, and Mooldijk added five saves to keep the score 2-1 for Kent State.
  • Eva Usoz struck early in the fourth, at 46:38, to increase the Kent State advantage to 3-1. Four minutes later, Adelaide Gagnon found the back of the net for the final 4-1 margin.
  • Mooldijk made 25 saves, which was a career high and also tied for the most saves in an NCAA Division I game this season.
