Sophie Mooldijk Posts Career-High 21 Saves in Setback to Richmond

FARMVILLE, Va. — Junior goalkeeper Sophie Mooldijk made a career-high 21 saves, but Longwood field hockey suffered a 6-0 loss to Richmond on Sunday afternoon at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field. 

How It Happened
  • The Lancers and Spiders went back and forth in the first two quarters with Richmond (3-1) scoring early in the first. Clara Larripa tallied her first goal of the day 6:29 into the match. Mooldijk kept the deficit at 1-0, making eight saves in the first half. 
  • Eight minutes into the second half, Larripa found the back of the net again, and Malena Magnano scored five minutes later to increase the margin to 3-0 after three quarters. 
  • At the 48:33 mark, Abril Peroni scored following a frenzy of attempts by Richmond. Valen Luna Parratore found the back of the cage in the 52nd minute, before Larripa secured a hat trick with just over four minutes remaining. 
  • Mooldijk tallied a career-high 21 saves, the most saves in a Division I game in the country this season.
