Longwood Finishes 3rd At Richmond Intercollegiate

MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Longwood University posted a 54-hole score of 285-283-296--864 Monday and Tuesday in men's golf to finish in third place among 11 teams at the Richmond Intercollegiate hosted by the University of Richmond and played at the Independence Golf Club in Midlothian. The host Spiders won the event with their 283-279-293--855 at the 7,127-yard, par 72 layout, while Liberty University's Ian McConnell took individual medalist honors at 72-68-69--209. The Lancers were led by senior Michael Young|Oakville, Ontario (Oakville Trafalgar) with his four-under par 69-69-74--212 that tied for third in the field of 69. Longwood will compete again October 24-26 at the Kilmarlic Intercollegiate hosted by Old Dominion University, a 54-hole tournament at Kilmarlic Golf Club located on the Outer Banks of North Carolina.

Young posted a new collegiate-best for 54 holes (212), and has now led Longwood in two of three events this fall. He was followed by juniors Austin Gray|Midlothian (Monacan) (76-71-71--218, t-16th) and Ross Sumner|Callao (Northumberland) (70-72-76--218, t-16th), freshman Kyle Bodin|Austin, Texas (McNeil) (73-71-75--219, t-20th), along with junior Kenny Leech|Boca Raton, Fla. (Grandview Prep) (73-75-77--225, t-40th). Gray (218) and Bodin (219) each posted new collegiate-lows for three rounds as well. Additionally, Young tied for first among the tournament field in pars (42), and tied for second in par 4 scoring (3.93, -2) while tied for third in par 3 scoring (3.00, E). Gray tied for first in birdies (15), and tied for fifth in par 4 scoring (4.00, E). Sumner tied for second in eagles (1), and tied for 11th in pars (37). Bodin tied for second in eagles (1) as well, and tied for seventh in par 5 scoring (4.58, -5). The Lancers' middle round of 283 was their lowest team round this season, while the three-day score of 864 was the season's team-best too.

Richmond was followed among the top five by James Madison (859), Longwood (864), Radford (870), and Georgetown (878).
