SUNSET BEACH, N.C. – Longwood University shot a final round of 304 Sunday in women's golf for a 54-hole score of 898 (299-295-304) to finish in second place among nine teams at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate hosted by Elon University and played at the Sea Trail Golf Resort in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. Western Carolina University won the event with its 293-302-302--897 at 5,947-yard, par 72 layout, while WCU's Josephine Send took medalist honors with her 71-72-73--216. The Lancers were led by freshman
Ariel Witmer/North Lima, Ohio (South Range) with her 76-71-76--223 to finish in a fifth-place tie among the 50 collegiate golfers. Longwood will compete again October 3-4 at the Nittany Lion Invitational hosted by Penn State University in State College, Pennsylvania.
Witmer was followed by sophomore
Alexa Boucher/Orange (Orange) (78-75-73--226, 9th), freshman
Ha Lee/Hagerstown, Md. (Smithsburg) (76-78-75--229, t-12th), along with junior
Brooke Mallory/Brockville, Ontario (St. Mary Catholic) (76-76-80--232, 19th). Standout junior
Kameron Carter/Bassett (Bassett) (71-73-DQ) inadvertently signed an incorrect scorecard following the third round and was disqualified. Longwood's three-day score of 898 is a new school-record for 54-holes, while Boucher established new collegiate-bests for 18 (73), 36 (153), and 54 holes (226) as well.
