ST. MICHAEL'S Md. – Longwood University shot a final-round 299 Tuesday in women's golf for a 36-hole score of 614 (315-299) to finish second among 10 teams at the Towson Women's Invitational played at the Harbourtowne Golf Resort located along the eastern shore of Maryland. Yale University won the event with its 298-292--590, while Yale's Alexandria Lipa took medalist honors among the 56 collegiate golfers with her 69-70--139 at the 5,825-yard, par 70 layout. Junior
Kameron Carter/Bassett (Bassett) led the Lancers with her runner-up finish as well, posting 73-69--142. Longwood will play again September 25-27 at the Sea Trail Intercollegiate hosted by Elon University in Sunset Beach, North Carolina.
Longwood's Carter posted the low round (69) of the day and tied the low round of the tournament, while followed by freshman
Ariel Witmer/North Lima, Ohio (South Range) (77-78--155, t-9th), junior
Brooke Mallory/Brockville, Ontario (St. Mary Catholic) (79-78--157, t-11th), sophomore
Alexa Boucher/Orange (Orange) (89-74--163, t-21st), along with senior
Kelly McAnally/Virginia Beach (Landstown) (86-87--173, t-40th). Freshman Haeun Lee/Hagerstown, Md. (Smithsburg) also competed for the Lancers as an individual (78-81--159, t-15th).
Witmer and Lee, the reigning girls high school state champions in Ohio (Division II) and Maryland, respectively, were competing in their first-ever collegiate tournament this week in Maryland.
