CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Longwood University posted rounds of 295 late Monday and 286 on Tuesday in men's golf for a 54-hole total of 877 to finish in an eighth-place tie among 15 teams at the Palisades Collegiate Classic hosted by UNC Charlotte in Charlotte, North Carolina. VCU won the event with its 282-270-284--836 at the 6,797-yard, par 72 Palisades Country Club, while Mike Van Sickle of Marquette took individual medalist honors with his 69-65-66--200. The Lancers will complete their 2008-09 campaign April 25-26 at the Cavalier Classic hosted by the University of Virginia.
In Charlotte, Longwood was led by senior
Scooter Buhrman/Fayetteville, N.C. (Jack Britt) with his 70-69-73--212, tied for 10th among the 86 golfers. Buhrman tied his career low for 54 holes and was followed by sophomore
Michael Young/Oakville, Ontario (Oakville Trafalgar) (76-73-71--220, t-30th) and junior
Adam Webb/Ridgeway (Magna Vista) (74-80-71--225, t-42nd), along with freshmen
Kenny Leech/Boca Raton, Fla. (Grandview Prep) (76-79-71--226, t-45th) and
Ross Sumner/Callao (Northumberland) (78-74-77--229, t-61st). The Lancers tied with the host Charlotte 49ers (296-291-290--877) in the team standings.
