SAVANNAH, Ga. – Longwood University posted a final round of 295 Tuesday in men's golf for a winning 36-hole total of 598 (303-295) to finish in first place among 10 teams at the Lonnie Barton Memorial Invitational hosted by Long Island University in Savannah, Georgia. Scooter Buhrman/Fayetteville, N.C. (Jack Britt) took individual medalist honors with his one-under par 70-73--143 at the 7,016-yard, par 72 Savannah Quarters Country Club. Longwood will play again March 20-21 at the George Washington Invitational to be played in Bethany Beach, Delaware.
Longwood's Buhrman led the field of 54 golfers while winning his first collegiate tournament, and was followed closely by teammate and junior
Adam Webb/Ridgeway (Magna Vista) (76-71--147, 2nd) as well as sophomore
Michael Young/Oakville, Ontario (Oakville Trafalgar) (78-72--150, t-3rd), along with freshman
Kenny Leech/Boca Raton, Fla. (Grandview Prep) (79-79--158, t-16th) and sophomore
Jed Rasnick/Roanoke (Lord Botetourt) (86-79--165, t-32nd). Also playing as an individual was freshman
Austin Gray/Midlothian (Monacan) (76-79--155, t-11th).
The GW tournament is a recent addition to the spring schedule following the cancellation of the event at Campbell University last week (March 2-3) due to the weather.
