FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University topped the United State Naval Academy, 14-13 in women's lacrosse on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore
Karli Brentlinger/Gambrills, Md. (South River) led all scorers with six goals, including the game-winner with 13:51 remaining. The Lancers return to action on Wednesday, March 4 when they host the Dukes of James Madison University at 5 p.m. at the Longwood Athletics Complex.
Longwood fell behind 4-1 in the first 6:30 before mounting its own charge to take a 6-5 lead with 6:50 remaining in the first half. Navy scored three goals in less than three minutes to build a two goal lead but the Lancers scored three of their own to close the first half.
The second half started out evenly, with Longwood's
Michelle Owen/Finksburg, Md. (Mount de Sales Academy) posting a goal to open the half. Navy countered with two goals to tie the game at 10, but that is when Brentlinger took over. The sophomore scored three goals in the next 5:20 to put the Lancers up 13-10. After Navy scored, Brentlinger scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with 13:51 remaining.

Juli Liebig/Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne's) stopped six shots and gave up only three goals in the final 22:43.
