MIDLOTHIAN, Va. – Longwood University shot a final round of 307 Tuesday in women's golf for a 36-hole score of 609 (302-307) to finish second among 15 teams at the Spider Fall Invitational hosted by the University of Richmond at the Independence Golf Club in Midlothian. The University of Maryland won the tournament with its 303-299--602 at the 6,113-yard, par 72 layout, while junior
Kameron Carter/Bassett (Bassett) finished second individually as well, in a playoff, with her 75-71--146 among the 80 collegiate golfers. Richmond's Caroline Lovette took honors with her 74-72--146, winning the playoff with a par on the first hole. The Lancers have now completed the fall portion of their 2009-10 schedule.
Carter, ranked 59th in this week's Golfweek women's collegiate rankings, was followed by junior
Brooke Mallory/Brockville, Ontario (St. Mary Catholic) (75-78--153, t-12th), sophomore
Alexa Boucher/Orange (Orange) (72-82--154, t-16th), along with freshmen
Ha Lee/Hagerstown, Md. (Smithsburg) (80-79--159, t-33rd) and
Ariel Witmer/North Lima, Ohio (South Range) (81-79--160, t-39th).
Maryland and Longwood were followed by Pennsylvania (613), Penn State (615), Marshall (622), and Richmond (622).
