RESULTS
AVON, Ohio – Longwood University posted a 54-hole score of 292-285-300--877 in men's golf to finish second among 14 teams Tuesday at the Telich Sun Life Financial Invitational hosted by Cleveland State University in Ohio. South Dakota State University won the event with its 287-290-293--870 at the 7,215-yard, par 72 Sand Ridge Golf Club, and SDSU's Geoff Mead took individual medalist honors at 73-68-71--212. The Lancers will play again October 13-14 at the Frank Landrey Invitational hosted by Liberty University in Gordonsville.
In Ohio, Longwood was led by sophomore
Michael Young/Oakville, Ontario (Oakville Trafalgar) with his one-over par score of 70-73-74--217 to finish in fourth-place among the 75 collegiate golfers. Young was followed by senior
Scooter Buhrman/Fayetteville, N.C. (Jack Britt) (74-70-75--219, t-6th) and freshman
Kenny Leech/Boca Raton, Fla. (Grandview Prep) (72-71-76--219, t-6th), junior
Adam Webb/Ridgeway (Magna Vista) (76-71-75--222, 13th), along with sophomore
Jed Rasnick/Roanoke (Lord Botetourt) (86-85-82--253, t-71st). Buhrman led the field in birdies (15), and tied for 10th in par 4 scoring (4.17, +5). Leech tied for seventh in par 5 scoring (4.58, -5), and tied for ninth in pars (34). Webb tied for seventh in par 4 (4.13, +4), and tied for seventh in birdies (11). As a team, the Lancers led the field in birdies (52), and was second in par 3 scoring (3.17, +10).
Through three tournaments, and nine rounds of golf, Young leads Longwood with his scoring average of 72.1 and is followed closely by Webb (72.4), Leech (73.0), and Buhrman (73.6). Other averages include freshmen
Stewart Surratt (74.7) and
Ross Sumner (75.7), senior
Allain Blanchard (78.3), Rasnick (79.5), and freshman
Austin Gray (80.3). The Lancers are averaging an impressive school-record pace of 290.2 for team scoring this fall.
The Frank Landrey Invitational will be played at the Spring Creek Golf Club in Gordonsville.
