CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Longwood sophomore Avery Nordman was named the Big South Women's Golfer of the Week after leading the Lancers to a historic performance at the Pirate Collegiate Classic earlier in the week.  

 
It marks the second-straight week that a Longwood golfer as been recognized after junior Madison Lehr received the honor on Sept. 10 following her win at the Tribe Invitational. It marks the second career golfer of the week award for Nordman, who was an All-Big South Second Team choice a season ago. 
 

Nordman posted two rounds in red figures on the way to finishing 12th individually at the Pirate Collegiate Classic. After an opening round 73 (+1), she carded a 1-under 71 in round two and a 2-under 70 on the final day of competition. Her final tally of 2-under 214 was a career best and ranks as the third-best 54-hole score in school history. Over the three rounds, Nordman ranked second in the field in par 3 scoring, going 3-under (2.75).    

 

As a team, Longwood continued its strong start to the year. Nordman helped the program set a pair of school records during the event. Her final round 70 (-2) was the best mark for the Lancers as they equaled the school's 18-hole record at 2-under 286 on Tuesday. Over the two-day event, the Lancers established a new 54-hole school record of 4-over par 868. Against a loaded field that included champion NC State, the Lancers finished fourth among the 13 competing teams.  

 

Nordman and the Lancers return to action when they travel to Lawrence, Kan., and the Lawrence Country Club to take part in the Marilyn Smith Sunflower Invitational, Oct. 5-6.
