Mandato Elevated to Associate Vice President at Longwood

Veteran athletics administrator begins fifth season with Lancers in new role

FARMVILLE, Va. — Longwood Deputy Athletics Director for Administration Tom Mandato has been promoted to Associate Vice President for Athletics, Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics Tim Hall announced Tuesday.

Mandato came to Longwood in the fall of 2022, and in that time, has been involved at a high level with: supervision of the women's basketball program as well as several additional sports, the construction and opening of the Joan Perry Brock Center and the renovation and rededication of Iler Hall to the Pomp Sports Performance Center.

In 2025-26, Mandato assumed oversight of marketing, promotions and fan experience as well as the athletics portion of the university's master facilities plan, among other projects.

"Tom has proven, over the course of his career in athletics administration, that he is most concerned with the comprehensive welfare of the student-athletes he serves," said Hall. "He is highly competent is all facets of management and leadership. I look forward to continuing to work closely with Tom in an effort to advance the reputation, efficiency and impact of Longwood athletics."

Mandato came to Longwood from UMBC, where he served as the senior associate athletic director for internal operations for five years. He worked closely with Hall for five years at the Catonsville, Md., school.

"I would like to thank both Tim Hall and [Longwood president] Taylor Reveley for entrusting me with this opportunity," Mandato said. "It means a great deal to be promoted to Associate Vice President. This endorsement further positions me as a main steward of the university's mission while affording me more opportunities to cultivate and grow various aspects of the athletic department. I will engage in these new responsibilities with the same level of dedication and care that I put into all my work."

In Mandato's role at UMBC, he was a senior advisor on a variety of athletic facility projects and initiatives, including the lead administrator during the construction process of a new $85 million Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena.

In addition, he had oversight of the department budget that encompassed a variety of areas. He also had a hand in facilities management to ensure the equipment and facilities were maintained and operational. In his time there, he was the sport administrator for a number of sports. In that role, he worked closely with his respective coaches and programs to provide comprehensive support.

Prior to UMBC, Mandato worked at Towson as an Assistant Manager for Facilities and Event Operations.

Mandato earned his Master's in Business Administration from Towson in 2010, and he holds a bachelor's degree from Temple.
