Eight Lancers Named to CSC Academic All-District At-Large Team

Field Hockey, Lacrosse, Men's Golf and Women's Golf Student-Athletes Recognized for Academic, Athletic Excellence

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood athletics had another eight players honored by College Sports Communicators (CSC) as part of the CSC 2026 Academic All-District® NCAA Division I At-Large Team this week.
 
Meghan Hyatt and Molly Rothenberger represented Longwood field hockey. Kendra DeFilippo and Isabella McCullough were the women's lacrosse representatives. Madison Lehr and Chiara Wippert were selected from Longwood women's golf, and Matthew Lyons and Hunter Swidzinski were the selections for Longwood men's golf.
 
To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher on a 4.0 scale, appear in 90 percent of the institution's games played or must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games. For golfers, the student-athlete must be in the lineup for 75 percent of an institution's team scoring events or in the lineup at the conference championship tournament.
 
Since 1952, the award has recognized the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The Academic All-America® program recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
 
Hyatt started all 17 matches for Longwood field hockey and was an Academic All-MAC selection. She was a team captain and made a pair of defensive saves while also recording one assist on the offensive end.
 
Rothenberger also started all 17 matches for the Lancers. She was an Academic All-MAC selection, and she had a pair of assists on offense for Longwood as a sophomore.
 
DeFilippo garnered a spot on the Big South All-Academic Team and started al 15 games for the lacrosse team. She tallied nine goals while ranking second on the team with 16 assists. She helped lead Longwood to the Big South Tournament for the second time in three years as well.
 
McCullough was a Second-Team All-Big South selection after ranking 11th nationally in saves (163) and third in the nation in saves per game (10.87). Her 163 saves ranked sixth all-time in team history for a single season, and she had at least 10 saves in a game eight times, including a team-record 21 saves against Liberty in March. She helped Longwood advance to the Big South Tournament.
 
Lehr was the Big South Newcomer of the Year and All-Big South Honorable Mention for women's golf. She also tied for third at the Big South Championship to earn a spot on the Big South All-Championship team and led Longwood to match play for the second time in three seasons.
 
Wippert was a Big South All-Academic Team selection for women's golf, and she had four top 20 finishes this season, including a 17th-place effort at the Big South Championship that helped the Lancers advance to match play for the second time in three seasons.
 
Lyons played in eight tournaments for Longwood men's golf, including the Big South Championship, in his return from an injury a season ago. He had one top five finish to earn Big South Golfer of the Week on the year.
 
Swidzinski was a First-Team All-Big South selection for men's golf while also being named the Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year and All-Academic Team selection. He led the team in scoring average and was the medalist once this season at The Savannah Intercollegiate.
