GILBERT, Ariz. – The Longwood men's tennis team has been ranked No. 5 in the final ITA Atlantic Regional Rankings, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The regional ranking is the second in as many seasons for the Lancers, who, under the guidance of then-first-year Director of Tennis Charlotte Clarke cracked the rankings, coming in at No. 10 overall.
Additionally, senior Big South Player of the Year Timéo Puech was ranked No. 8 in the region in singles. It is believed to be the first the first regional ranking for a Longwood player in singles or doubles in team history. He was 22-6 in singles across all competitions this season.
At No. 5 in the team rankings, Longwood finished ahead of VCU, Richmond, James Madison, George Mason and William & Mary, respectively.
The Lancers are the highest-ranked team in the Big South Conference, topping affiliate member NJIT, which is No. 6 in the Northeast Region and Gardner-Webb, No. 8 in the Carolina Region.
In all, Longwood played eight different teams in the ITA regional rankings this season.
Longwood finished the season 13-7 overall after advancing to its first Big South championship match. The Lancers appeared in the postseason for the first time at Division I as well, earning an invitation to the UTR Sports NIT Championship before falling in the semifinals.
