Lancers Gear Up for 17-Match Slate in Fall

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood head field hockey coach Miranda Rigg announced the team's schedule today, with an 17-match run on tap for the Lancers this fall.

The schedule features eight home and nine road matches in addition to a home scrimmage in mid-August.

Longwood opens with five non-conference matchups prior to diving into the meat of the grueling, nine-match gauntlet that is MAC play.

The team begins the regular season at home against Queens (Aug. 30) at Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.

In September, the Lancers play plenty of regional foes. The team opens the month with a trip to William & Mary (Sept. 4) before returning home to host Richmond (Sept. 6). The following weekend, Longwood heads to Davidson (Sept. 11) and Liberty (Sept. 13) before beginning conference play against Miami on Sept. 17. The Lancers close out the month with road trips to Bellarmine (Sept. 25) and Ball State (Sept. 27).

In October, Longwood plays four of its first six matches at home. The team hosts James Madison (Oct. 2) on that first weekend before a trip to Michigan to take on Central Michigan (Oct. 9) and Michigan State (Oct. 11).

Longwood then plays three straight at home, all in conference, with Kent State (Oct. 16), Ohio (Oct. 18) and UMass (Oct. 23) headed to Elizabeth Burger Jackson Field.

The Lancers wrap up the month with road trips to Old Dominion (Oct. 25) and App State (Oct. 30) before closing the regular season at home against Bucknell (Nov. 1).

MAC tournament play begins Wednesday, Nov. 4 and runs through Saturday, Nov. 7. The top six teams in the league advance to the postseason.
