Thomas Adds Wesson to Roster

Vermont Transfer, Charlottesville Native Joins Lancer Men's Basketball

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood Head Men's Basketball Coach Ronnie Thomas announced the addition of Ben Wesson to the 2026-27 men's basketball roster today.

Wesson joins Longwood from the University of Vermont, where he spent the past two seasons.

"Ben is a highly decorated player from the state of Virginia who has spent the past two years at one of the premier mid-major programs in the country," Thomas said. "He's more than just a shooter—he's a shot-maker with a high basketball IQ who understands the game at an advanced level. He will provide valuable spacing and decision-making for our team. Throughout the recruiting process, one consistent theme we heard was his work ethic, which speaks volumes about who he is."

Last year, he played in seven contests for a Vermont team that advanced to the America East Championship before ultimately falling to UMBC, the top seed.

Wesson averaged 1.9 points, 0.3 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game. He set a career-best with 13 points against Plattsburgh State by going a perfect 5-5 from the floor in November.

The 6'4, 170-pound guard redshirted his first year at Vermont after playing in high school at Albemarle High School. A native of Charlottesville, he helped lead Albemarle to district championships in both 2023 and 2024, and he earned Virginia Class 5 All-State First Team honors in 2024.

He scored more than 1,000 points in his high school career, and he set the single-season record as a senior for both points in a season (527) and three-pointers (94).

He joins a Lancer side that has won a pair of Big South titles in the past five seasons and will be entering its second year with Thomas as the head coach.

The Lancers will begin the hunt for a Big South title in 2026-27. To stay tuned to the latest information about Longwood Basketball, head to www.longwoodlancers.com or follow Lancer basketball on X or Instagram.
