FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood Head Men's Basketball Coach
Ronnie Thomas announced the signing of Kany Tchanda to the men's basketball roster today.
Tchanda was a four-star recruit before spending the past two seasons at Boston College prior to coming to Longwood.
"Kany is a high-upside addition who gained valuable experience competing in the ACC at Boston College," Thomas said. "He has invested significant time into developing his game and is ready to showcase his full skill set. His combination of athleticism and shooting ability at the four position allows us to stretch the floor in a way that Lancer fans have come to expect with the like of
Michael Christmas and Nate Lliteras. In addition, his versatility will give us the ability to present multiple looks defensively."
The native of the Democratic Republic of the Congo played a reserve role for Boston College in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) over the last two years.
As a prep, ESPN and Rivals150 rated Tchanda as a four-star recruit. He played the final season of his prep career at Sunrise Christian Academy, where he averaged 10.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and almost one block and one steal per game. While at Sunrise, he played with fellow Lancer
Isaiah Kalala.
The 6'9, 200-pound forward also shot better than 60 percent from the floor and 50 percent from three.
In 2023-24, he averaged nearly 10 points and 5.1 rebounds and 0.9 blocks per game in EYBL Scholastic conference play, and his rebounding and block totals ranked in the top 20 in the league.
Longwood enters its second season under head coach
Ronnie Thomas, and the team has won two Big South titles in the past five years.
