Puech Named Player of the Year; Lancers Place Four on All-Big South Teams

Senior Lancers’ first to garner league’s top individual honor

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Senior Timéo Puech has been named 2026 Big South Conference Player of the Year in men's tennis, leading a group of four Longwood players on the all-conference teams, the league announced Wednesday.

Puech, who was Preseason Player of the Year while also winning the Big South individual singles championship in the fall, earned all-Big South first team honors in singles and doubles. Puech becomes the first Longwood player to claim Big South Player of the Year honors in men's or women's tennis and is the second Lancers' player on the men's side to take home a major year-end award in as many years, joining Mauricio Gonzalez Paiva in 2025, who was Co-Newcomer of the Year.

Also earning all-Big South recognition in 2026 are junior Daniel Borisov (first-team doubles and second-team singles), senior Alejandro Uribe (second-team singles and doubles) and sophomore Daniel Lopez (second-team doubles).

Lopez is also Longwood's representative on the Big South All-Academic Team.

It marks the second consecutive season Puech has picked up first-team honors in both singles and doubles. He has six all-conference honors in his four-year career, after also claiming first-team in singles and second team in doubles as a sophomore in 2024.

Puech, a native of Maisons-Alfort, France, is 20-6 in singles in all competitions this season, including an 8-3 mark this spring, all at No. 1. He has won his last six singles matches overall. Teaming with Borisov primarily, Puech has a 16-11 doubles record in all competitions and is 7-5 in duals.

Borisov, of Dublin, Ireland, has played to a 17-10 record in all doubles matches this season, going 5-5 at No. 1. In singles action, he is 17-7 on the year and 6-5 in duals.

Borisov was named Big South Player of the Week on March 25.

Uribe, from Medellín, Colombia, now has three all-Big South honors after being named first-team doubles as a junior in 2025. This season, he is 23-7 overall in singles, including 11-7 in the spring. He finished 3-0 in Big South singles in 2026, the only Longwood men's player to accomplish the feat.

Teaming mostly with Lopez, Uribe went 20-8 in doubles and 12-5 in dual matches.

Uribe earned Big South Player of the Week honors on Feb. 25.

Lopez, a native of Palma de Mallorca, Spain, was 9-4 at No. 3 doubles with Uribe on the year. Lopez carries a 3.813 GPA in business administration at Longwood.

The Lancers (11-5), who have their most wins since going 13-9 overall in 2019, are the No. 3 seed in the Big South tournament. Longwood opens play Thursday at 2 p.m., against sixth-seeded Bryant at Lexington County Tennis Complex in Lexington, S.C.
