FARMVILLE, Va. – David Lafreniere put up back-to-back-to-back rounds below par to card his first top four finish of the season at the Surf Club Invitational, and the Big South Conference named him the Big South Men's Golfer of the Week this afternoon.
Â
Lafreniere was Longwood's top finisher with a 68-65-79—203 (-10) and tied for fourth in the field, which tied for the third-lowest raw score in team history.
Â
At the event, he posted 11 birdies and a pair of eagles in 54 holes, and he had nothing worse than a bogey all weekend.
Â
At the beginning of the tournament, he was bogey-free for his first 26 holes.
Â
The finish was the best of the season for Lafreniere, and it was also his best finish for the team. He had tied for fourth as an individual at an event as a freshman.
Â
Lafreniere is the third Lancer to earn Big South Golfer of the Week this season, with
Gabriel Mainella earning the honors once while
Hunter Swidzinski has been selected twice.
Â
Longwood returns to the course when the team heads to the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday, March 23-24.
