SAVANNAH, Ga. –By the end of the weekend, Longwood men's golf will have played more rounds at the Club at Savannah Harbor than they have at their home course this semester.
 
Even so, the Lancers put together strong stretches of golf to open their spring season at The Savannah Intercollegiate on Saturday afternoon.
 
The second round was nearly complete when the event was suspended due to darkness, with about half of the 18-team field completing 36 holes while half had a handful of holes to play.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
The Lancers had three of their five finish that second round, and Longwood is ninth prior to the final day of competition at the Par 72, 7,131 yard course.
 
Hunter Swidzinski sits tied for fifth with one hole remaining on his day after a solid 35 holes. He posted eight birdies total and nothing worse than a bogey to sit one-under with 19 holes to go.
 
Matthew Hartley also has one hole remaining on the day, and he is knocking on the top 25. The freshman vaulted up 24 spots through the second round and is three over through 35 holes. He had six birdies on the day.
 
David Lafreniere and Matthew Lyons are tied for 50^th after completing their two rounds. Lafreniere posted a 76-75—151 while Lyons carded a 72-79—151 to both sit at seven-over.
 
Gabriel Mainella is tied for 95^th with one round to go.
 
WHAT THEY SAID:
 
"Even though it didn't go like we would have liked overall, we had several guys play some really good stretches of holes," said Longwood Head Coach Kevin Fillman. "Obviously, we weren't able to sustain that level of play or do it consistently, but nobody can blame the players for that. Some teams were able to prepare more than others, but the majority of the field has not been able to properly prepare for tournament golf. A lot of us are in the same boat. It was still great to get out there and actually play. Now that today is behind us, hopefully we'll feel a bit more comfortable tomorrow and be able to play some better golf."
