CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Longwood senior Alejandro Uribe has been named Big South Conference Player of the Week in men's tennis. The league announced on Wednesday.
Uribe went 3-1 on the week, earning the clinching point at No. 6 singles in both of the Longwood wins. The Lancers went 2-0 as a team, beating Richmond, 5-2, at home on Friday and James Madison, 4-3, on Sunday.
Against the Spiders, he teamed with Daniel Lopez to win at No. 3 doubles, 6-2, and then beat UR's Sam Rathmanner, 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-0. At JMU, he and Lopez dropped their No. 3 doubles match, 6-3, but Uribe rebounded to top Harrison Lee, 6-3, 7-5. Longwood topped Richmond for the second straight season and beat JMU first the time since 2018, winning in Harrisonburg for the first time since 2009, as well.
The Big South weekly honor is the first of Uribe career. The Medellín, Colombia, native is 14-6 in singles and 10-6 in doubles this season.
Longwood (2-3) is back home Wednesday at 2 p.m., hosting Ferrum.
