ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Matthew Fitzner scored in the triple jump for Longwood track, and the Lancer men and women had a few more runners qualify for finals after the second day of the Big South Championships.
Â
Ayden Stewart and
Sophie Farley both earned spots in the finals following strong performances in the men's 400m and the women's 800m, respectively.
Â
In addition, a variety of runners added new personal bests despite battling rainy weather that created damp conditions and caused delays.
Â
NOTABLE RESULTS:
Â
For Fitzner, he soared for a 14.07m (46' 2") jump in the triple jump, a personal best, to finish sixth in the event out of 10 jumpers.
Â
Stewart then powered his way to a spot in the men's 400m finals for a second straight season. In the race, he lowered his personal best to 48.36, shaving off more than six-tenths of a second off his previous top time this year. He finished sixth among all runners in the heats.
Â
Farley roared to a 2:11.16 in the women's 800m to win her heat and finish with the second-fastest time in the field. Her 2:11.16 was two-hundredths of a second faster than her previous personal best.
Â
In the men's 800m, Joshua Martin had the team's top finish with a 1:55.02 that was also a personal best.
Elijah McGee (1:59.59) and
Daniel Duarte (2:01.67) also set personal bests in the same race.
Â
Cullen Carter blazed to a 10.99 in the men's 100m for a personal best, and
Mayson Jenkins cut nearly four-tenths of a second off her best 400m time with a 59.47.
Â
Jada Fyffe also had a 13.57 in the women's 100m, which lowered her personal best time.
Â
