BLACKSBURG, Va. — Senior Alejandro Uribe advanced through singles qualifying to lead the Longwood men's tennis team in the 2025 ITA Atlantic Regional at Virginia Tech's Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center on Thursday.

Uribe moves on to the main draw, which begins Friday. He joins teammates Daniel Borisov and Timéo Puech, who each received automatic berths in that draw. The two finalists there earn bids to the NCAA Individual Championships, which will be held in Lake Nona, Fla., at the USTA National Campus on Nov. 18, 23.

Uribe opened the day with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Nicholas Novitski of George Mason. He then earned his spot in the main draw by beating Richmond's Paxton Pritchard, 7-5, 6-4.

Sophomore Daniel Lopez won his first match of qualifying against Patrik Petera from VCU. After Petera won the the first set, 7-6 (4), Lopez rallied to take the next two, 6-2 and 6-4. 

Lopez, though, fell in his second match of the day versus Zech Hamrouni from Old Dominion, also in three sets. Hamrouni took the first set 6-2 before Lopez responded with a 6-0 win in the second. Hamrouni, however, prevailed, 6-3, in the deciding third set.

Doubles action gets underway Friday at 2 for Longwood as Lopez and Uribe play a pair from Virginia Tech and Borisov and Puech, who received a bye into the round of 32, play opponents to be determined. Those matches are at 2 and 5 p.m., respectively.

Day two play in the tournament as a whole starts at 9 a.m., on Friday.
