GREENVILLE, N.C. – A true team effort helped Longwood women's golf card a third straight top five finish.
 
The Lancers had the third-best round of the day in the 15-team field, and that allowed Longwood to climb up from eighth into a tie for fifth over the final 18 holes of the Pirate Collegiate Classic, hosted by East Carolina.
 
NOTABLE RESULTS:
 
Longwood was one of three teams to shoot at par or better on the day with an even-par 288. The round helped them make up six shots on Appalachian State, who they tied for fifth, and the Lancers finished only two shots back of James Madison in fourth.
 
Over the two days, the Lancers improved each round, finishing with a 301-295-288—884 (+20).
 
Abigail Sheldon and Avery Nordman notched matching one-under 71s on the day to lead the way and climb into a tie for 15^th.
 
Sheldon was incredibly consistent throughout the day and posted two birdies and 15 pars against only one bogey. The sophomore finished with a 75-72-71—218 (+2).
 
Nordman, meanwhile, battled her way to five birdies in her first nine holes before closing her round with nine straight pars. She finished with a 73-74-71—218 (+2).
 
Chiara Wippert and Caroline Tragesser also had matching rounds, with the duo posting one-over 73s that represented their best rounds of the tournament.
 
Wippert had one birdie and 16 pars en route to her 73, and she carded a 84-76-73—233 (+17).
 
Tragesser had three birdies in the final round to earn her 73, and she finished with an 81-81-73—235 (+19).
 
Madison Lehr stayed inside the top 30 of the field with a 76 that had her birdie one hole. She finished with a 72-73-76—221 (+5) to tie for 26^th in the 87-player field.

"It was a great day for the Lancers!" said Longwood Head Coach Megan Weaver. "Abigail and Avery had so many birdie chances from all their greens in regulation. Caroline really put an emphasis on hitting the fairway, often teeing off with a wood or hybrid and really putting herself in a great position to score. Chiara was unbelievable with her eight up-and-downs today."
 
"It is tough to move up the leaderboard, and having the third best team score of the day, we were able to move up three spots—an incredible finish with this field!" Weaver added. "I couldn't be happier with today's truly team performance to secure our third consecutive top five finish!"
