EDISTO BEACH, S.C. – Longwood women's golf overcame a slow start and tough playing conditions to move into a tie for ninth at the Edisto Island Invitational.

Avery Nordman led the way with a top 10 day, and no one in the 77-player field finished at par or better at The Plantation Course at Edisto.

Longwood is tied for ninth with fellow Big South member Charleston Southern. The two are two shots behind East Carolina in the 14-team field. Longwood sits five shots back of Radford and Western Carolina, tied for sixth, and six shots back of Stetson in fifth.

The day featured a strong wind throughout that made it challenging across the field.

Nordman carded birdies on her first and last hole and had nothing worse than a bogey to tie for 10
th on the day with a 75 (+4).

Chaira Wippert tied for 28
th while also not carding anything worse than a bogey on the day. The sophomore finished with a 78 (+7).

Abigail Sheldon shook off a slow start and put together a solid back nine, where she shot two over, to finish tied for 44
th. She closed the day with an 81 (+10).

Madison Lehr and
Caroline Tragesser both carded an 82 (+11) to tie for 49
th.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Considering we started off seven over after the first hole, we did a great job holding it together," said Longwood Head Coach
Megan Weaver. "Scores were high across the board with the howling wind. We had a few weak shots that blew out of bounds and really punished us; otherwise, we played decent, and we didn't give up. We have to improve upon our shot commitment tomorrow."
