Women's Golf

Women's Golf Shakes Off Slow Start, Battles Elements at Edisto Island Invitational

Nordman Sits in Top 10, Lancers Solid in Back Nine to Tie for Ninth

EDISTO BEACH, S.C. – Longwood women's golf overcame a slow start and tough playing conditions to move into a tie for ninth at the Edisto Island Invitational.

Avery Nordman led the way with a top 10 day, and no one in the 77-player field finished at par or better at The Plantation Course at Edisto.

NOTABLE RESULTS:

Longwood is tied for ninth with fellow Big South member Charleston Southern. The two are two shots behind East Carolina in the 14-team field. Longwood sits five shots back of Radford and Western Carolina, tied for sixth, and six shots back of Stetson in fifth.

The day featured a strong wind throughout that made it challenging across the field.

Nordman carded birdies on her first and last hole and had nothing worse than a bogey to tie for 10th on the day with a 75 (+4).

Chaira Wippert tied for 28th while also not carding anything worse than a bogey on the day. The sophomore finished with a 78 (+7).

Abigail Sheldon shook off a slow start and put together a solid back nine, where she shot two over, to finish tied for 44th. She closed the day with an 81 (+10).

Madison Lehr and Caroline Tragesser both carded an 82 (+11) to tie for 49th.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Considering we started off seven over after the first hole, we did a great job holding it together," said Longwood Head Coach Megan Weaver. "Scores were high across the board with the howling wind. We had a few weak shots that blew out of bounds and really punished us; otherwise, we played decent, and we didn't give up. We have to improve upon our shot commitment tomorrow."
