NOTABLES:

For Longwood, the team's 11-under 273 matched an 11-under 273 that the team shot in 2013 at the OBX Collegiate. Through 36 holes, the team's 557 cumulative card is two strokes clear of the 2019 squad that posted a nine-under 559 at the OBX Intercollegiate.

Longwood's round was the second-best round in the field, and it helped the team climb up into third. The Lancers are five strokes ahead of Winthrop and six up on Radford in fifth. Longwood trails second-place Gardner-Webb by two strokes and first place High Point by eight after the Panthers carded a 13-under 271.

LaRue once again was sensational while climbing up a spot into second place. For a second straight day, the junior posted two eagles in his first four holes, and he carded five other birdies to boot. He is one shot back of the tournament leader.

His 65 was tied for the fourth-best round in the field on the day, and it was the best round for the Lancers this season in raw score and tied for the best round relative to par. Over the two rounds, he is tied for the lead in the field on both Par 4s and Par 5s, and he is the only player in the field with four eagles.

Jordan vaulted 10 spots up the standings with his second-round 67, holding sole possession of eighth place. The junior tallied six birdies in the round, and he closed with par or better on 16 of his 18 holes.

The 67 was Jordan's lowest round of the season.

Nick Rakes bounced back from a bumpy opening round to card a one-under 70, and the senior moved up six spots into a tie for 26th. He closed with two birdies in his final five holes and had four birdies and 12 pars in the round.

Matthew Lyons fired an even-par 71, and he closed with an eagle on the 18th hole to stay in the top 20. Logan Hooper battled during his round, but he to closed well with back-to-back birdies.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"I thought we did a great job staying in the present, even after doing some things that weren't necessarily part of the plan," said Longwood Head Coach Kevin Fillman. "There were several times when we made bogeys—and even a couple doubles—but were able to come right back to make birdie. It also helped that we finished the round much better than yesterday."

"With the way scoring has gone this week, we know we're going to have to go play another really good round tomorrow," Fillman added. "Our plan will be to keep the pedal down and do just that."

UP NEXT:

Longwood will play the final round of stroke play on Saturday. Following stroke play, the top four teams qualify for match play on Sunday, April 21. Live stats are available at golfstat.com.
