NOTABLES:
Â
The Lancers moved up one spot after entering the day third. The second place finish was the team's best finish this season and second straight within the top three. Longwood tied for the field lead with 37 birdies.
Â

LaRue finished two under for the tournament, one of three players in the entire 88 player field to finish under par. He was the only one to post three rounds at par or better, and his final round 71 was the second lowest score on the day as the course played difficult. No player posted a final round score in the 60s.
Â
Over the two days, LaRue carded 10 birdies, second best on the team, and he also tallied one of five eagles in the entire field.
Â
Jordan posted his first top four finish this year thanks in large part to his opening round 68. He led the Lancers with 11 birdies on the weekend. He led the field on Par 4s with a 3.90 scoring average.
Â
Rakes moved up into the top five, and he had 36 pars, good for second on the team. He added eight birdies to post his first top five finish of the campaign, and he was tied for third on Par 5 average score at the event.
Â
Moore led Longwood with 39 pars over the two days, the second most in the field.
Â
George shaved off eight strokes from his opening round to move up the standings, and his final round 74 was the second best score on the team.
Â
WHAT THEY SAID:
Â
"We did a really good job doing most of what we wanted to do for the majority of the round," said Longwood Head Coach
Kevin Fillman. "Unfortunately, we were never able to get close enough to make Stetson think about anything to hurt them. On the other hand, once we were in a solid position to finish second, we began to focus on some things that never help over the closing holes. Fortunately, we were able to hold on to tie Troy and beat Jacksonville State, both of which are big for us."
Â
"Justin did what Justin does," Fillman added. "He just consistently stays in contention. As has been the case many times before, we're going to have to learn from this experience and go be better next time."
Â
UP NEXT:
Â
Longwood has three weeks off before returning to the course on Monday and Tuesday, March 25-26 at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate, hosted by William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
