HOW IT HAPPENED:

Rakes was absolutely on fire to start the course and tied a career best with a 66. It was his best round ever relative to par at six-under, and he followed it up with an even-par 72.

The senior was at his best on Par 5s, where he was tied for second at six under on the day on such holes. He added a team-best 10 birdies to go with an eagle.

LaRue matched Rakes with 10 birdies, and he was even on the first round before ripping off a five-under 67 in round two. On the day, he was at par or better on Par 3s, 4s and 5s on average.

Daniel George posted an even-par 72 on the first 18 holes, and he was at his best on Par 5s as well. He tied for 63rd by the end of the day.

Matthew Lyons bounced back from a tough start to shoot an even-par 72 on the final 18 holes, and he is 74th.

Scott Jordan had a rules violation due to an unintentional use of a piece of equipment, and it caused his first round score to be disqualified. Despite the start, he still posted a one-under 71 in the second round.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"We played two good rounds today," said Longwood Head Coach Kevin Fillman. "It's unfortunate that we didn't get full credit for the morning round, but we did play some solid golf. Obviously, what Nick did in the early round and what Justin gave us this afternoon cover for a lot of other things that happened out there. The Virtues is a difficult golf course, but I'm very confident that we can go post a low number tomorrow."

UP NEXT:

Longwood will play the final 18 holes on Tuesday morning to close out the Virtues Intercollegiate.
