Longwood Men's Tennis Closes Davidson Fall Invitational Strong

Puech, Belosevic, Uribe All Earn Singles Wins to Cap Weekend

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Longwood men's tennis continued its fall campaign with a trip to Davidson for the Davidson Fall Invitational this weekend.

Timéo Puech, Petar Belosevic and Alejandro Uribe won their final singles matches of the weekend to cap a solid showing for the Lancers.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lancers played a mix of singles and doubles over the course of three days. Puech and Reis both posted a pair of singles wins, and Puech teamed up with Petar Belosevic to add a doubles win as well.

On the final day, Puech took down Blickwede 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-8) to cap the weekend with a win.

Belosevic bounced back after a pair of losses to open the tournament with a strong comeback effort to earn a win on Sunday. He took down Wall from UNC Greensboro 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9).

Uribe also shook off singles losses at the beginning of the tournament to roll to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Johns from UNCG.

Luis Reis won his opening match 6-1, 6-4 over Dacuba and won his final match of the weekend by retirement.

Puech and Belosevic also posted a 6-3 doubles win on Sunday.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Althought we did not start the weekend with the results that we wanted, we did play competitive matches through Friday," said Longwood Head Coach Carlos Lora. "On Saturday, our performance did drop all around, but the one thing I was most proud of from this weekend from the guys was the perseverance that they showed to come out with some really good wins on SUnday, especially in singles. We had two of our guys in Timéo and Petar that split sets in their singles matches on Sunday and were down 8-4 and 9-2 respectively in their third set tiebreakers and ended up finding a way to come back and win their matches."

"We also had Alejandro Uribe who, after having a hard fought first set in his singles match, he was able to maintain his composure and come out with a good win to finish the weekend off," Lora added. "I am looking forward to getting some of our guys that are currently injured back on court soon to see how we perform in our last competition of the fall at the River City Open."
