HOW IT HAPPENED:

Longwood sits five shots back of first place with a team effort that saw only one round above 75 for the team.

Nick Rakes is tied for seventh following back-to-back rounds at par or better. He was one of the best among the field on Par 3s, and he also carded 10 birdies in his 36 holes.

Daniel George paced himself with a solid 74 to open before his second-round 70 led the team, and he is tied for 17th. George was incredibly consistent and had the most pars on the team with 26. His 26 pars tied for second in the field. George also posted an eagle.

Brendan Dunphy was tied for 29th with back-to-back solid scores. He had a 72 in the opening round followed by a 75 in the second round to tie for 29th. He was best on Par 5s, where he averaged a 4.83 on the day.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"I felt like we did a good job of literally weathering the storm this morning," said Head Coach Kevin Fillman. "We played through a couple pretty good downpours, but, once it stopped, the rain actually did the field a favor. The golf course was extremely firm and fast during yesterday's practice round, which is when a golf course plays difficultly. It still played very firm, but the rain made it slower and much more scorable."

"Outside of the Par 5s, this is usually a golf course that doesn't give up many holes under par," Fillman added. "We took advantage of the slower conditions and made plenty of birdies today. We just need to clean up a few things that cost us shots, and we'll be in great shape when we're finished."

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

The Lancers were tied for the second-best average score on Par 3s at 3.15.

Longwood was tied for third-best in the field on Par 5s, with an average score of 4.80.
