Jennings Tied For First After Opening Round Of RiverTowne Invitational

Junior Fires Career Low Round, Lancers Tied for 13th

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Annabelle Jennings stormed out to start the spring for Longwood women's golf on Sunday in Charleston, S.C. The junior ripped off a career low 69 to tie for first after the opening round at the Rivertowne Invitational, and the Lancers are tied for 13th in a highly competitive field of 19 teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
Jennings started strong for Longwood and carded a pair of birdies in her first nine holes. She then shaved off one more stroke on the back nine to finish with her best 18-hole score as a Lancer. She finished with five birdies in the round in total.
 
Landis also posted a strong round. She shot an even-par 72, and she had a trio of birdies in her opening round. She had two of her three birdies in her final nine holes.
 
Choi tied for 55th with an opening-round 76 to finish tied for 55th. She posted one birdie and 11 pars and shook off a slow front nine to finish strong.
 
Peyton Schaffer tied for 90th and bounced back strong after a tough first nine holes. She had seven pars and a birdie on her last nine holes.
 
Grace Huffman also bounced back after a tough first nine holes, and she tied for 95th.
 
WHAT THEY SAID:
 
"It was a good opening round of the season," said Longwood Head Coach Brittany Dabule. "Typically, round one's are a struggle for us, so this was a positive start. We are looking to improve individually and on our team score tomorrow."
 
"My goal today was to make pars," said Annabelle Jennings. "I kept the ball in play off the tee and struck my irons very well. I also made critical putts at the right time."
 
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
 
Longwood is tied for 13th with Richmond.
 
The Lancers are two strokes back of 11th place.
 
Longwood is one of six Big South schools at the event.
 
UP NEXT:
 
Round two will tee off in a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Monday before teeing off for the final round on Tuesday morning at 8:45 a.m.
