ELON, N.C. – Longwood men's and women's tennis traveled south to take on the Elon University Phoenix, with both teams putting up good fights but falling 7-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Elon's men clinched the doubles point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles, but Longwood battled in singles.
Luis Reis dueled Veljko Krstic before falling 6-3, 6-4 at No. 3 singles in the longest match on the men's side.
Timeo Puech also put together a solid outing before falling to Nicholas Campbell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
On the women's side, the Phoenix claimed the early doubles point, but the Lancers again rallied with strong efforts in singles play. Both
Maria Saez and
Wiktoria Czerny forced a third set. Saez rallied from a first set loss to take the second set 6-4 at No. 3 singles, but Helen Sarikulaya won the tiebreak 10-2 for the third set.
Czerny rebounded from a 6-3 loss in her opening set to take the second set 6-1 at No. 5 singles, but Olivia Archer answered with a 10-4 win in the tiebreak on the third set.

"Both teams came in and represented Longwood well against very strong Elon teams," said Longwood Director of Tennis Adam Jackson. "We competed on every court and will learn from these tough matches."
UP NEXT:
The Lancers men's head to Barton College this weekend for a matchup on Saturday. The two sides both will host Hampton on Wednesday, Feb. 22 for their home opener.
