POWELLS POINT, N.C. – On a crisp, windy fall day for round two at the ODU/OBX Intercollegiate, Nick Rakes and Zane Moore kept Longwood around.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Once again, good scores were tough to come by, as only two players in the entire 76-player field posted a score below 70.

Rakes and Moore posted matching 75s, although they got there in different fashions. Rakes had a trio of birdies while battling an up and down round. He finished the day tied for 11th.

Meanwhile, Moore was consistent, with 14 pars and nothing worse than a bogey on the day. He is tied for 18th.

Scott Jordan, meanwhile, closed the round with an even back nine and gave Longwood its lowest round of the day. He posted an eagle and a birdie on the way to a 74, moving him up into a tie for 41st.

Justin LaRue and Matthew Lyons rounded out the grouping. LaRue is tied for 32nd after a 77 in round two, and Lyons is tied for 62nd.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"It's difficult to come up with many positives from today's round," said Longwood Head Coach Kevin Fillman. "That's not being negative; it's the facts. If we go out there and execute a poor golf shot every once in a while, that's fine. We can live with those, but, in addition to some execution mistakes, we let a number of things—both controllable and uncontrollable—affect us. That's not acceptable, and every one of us knows that."

"We definitely have a lot to improve upon tomorrow," Fillman added. "I'm curious to see if we can answer the bell. Given that we're going to have to live with tomorrow's round for the next three-and-a-half months, my bet is that we'll do what we're supposed to do and go play a round that we all know we can play."

UP NEXT:
