Fork Union, Va.- Sam Sager's record breaking day highlights the Longwood cross country teams effort at the Fred Hardy Invitational.
Sam Sager broke his own school record in the men's 800m by running a 1:57.96 time at the Fred Hardy Invitational. Sager placed 12
th in the 800m out of 38 participants. Teammate
Dylan Forrester ran a 2:06.13 in the 800 which was good for 23
rd as well. Sager now owns the top three times in Longwood history for the 800m.
In the men's 5000, Longwood had three runners competing and all placed in the top 20 out of the 27 player field.
Ethan Pettyjohn ran a 15:06.12 which was good for 16
th place.
Benjamin Goulet and Nick Howell followed up in 17
th and 18
th respectively. Goulet ran a 16:13.40 and Howell went 17:34.85.
Alec Daniel was unable to start in the event.
For the women, all runners competed in the 28 player 5000 meter.
Grace Puleo finished with a 20:40.07 good for 22
nd. Following Puleo was
Bailey Deaver who ran a 22:12.7 which put her in 23
rd, and in 24
th was
Kiersten Witte with a 22:37.75 time.
Aislinn Garcia finished in 26
th with a 23:33.03 time.
The cross country team returns to action at the Dr. Jack Tom's Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia on March 26th.
