EDISTO BEACH, S.C. – Ester Choi put together her best round of the fall for Longwood women's golf on the first day of the Edisto Island Invitational. She finished the day tied for fourth while the Lancers are 11^th of 14 teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
Choi posted her best round of her young Lancer career, as the sophomore shot a one-over 72. Her best stretch came on the front nine of the course, where she posted all four of her birdies. She had four birdies on the day, tied for the top mark in the 80-player field.
 
Choi tied for sixth in the field with her 4.09 scoring average on Par 4s, and she tied for seventh on Par 5s with a 4.67 scoring average.
 
Mary-Sears Brown, Peyton Schaffer and Grace Huffman all finished within two strokes of each other to tie for 48^th, 54^th and 61^st on the day. Annabelle Jennings wrapped up the Lancer group of five tied for 67^th.
 
WHAT THEY SAID:
 
"Everything was just clicking today: ball striking, short game, putting," Choi said. "My putting was on point. I tried not to get in my own head today and focused on other things than golf when I was walking to my ball."
 
"The course played a bit tough today with consistent 15-20 mph winds," said Longwood Head Coach Brittany Dabule. "The key was to play simple and hit the middle of the greens. We missed a good amount of putts and simple shots. For tomorrow's round, we need to do better at finishing the holes while continuing to execute our shots."
 
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
 
Choi's round was her best raw score by two strokes. She shot a 74 twice last season.
 
Brown and Jennings posted Longwood's best scoring average on Par 3s, as the duo were tied for seventh in the field at an even 3.00. Choi was right behind them at 3.25.
 
Huffman was tied with Choi with a 4.67 scoring average on Par 5s.
 
UP NEXT:
 
The Lancers will tee off for round two on Monday, Oct. 10. The tournament will conclude with the final round on Tuesday, Oct. 11.
