Longwood Places Ahead of 4 Big South Teams at Terrier Intercollegiate

Final Round Elevates Lancers to Eighth Overall, Second Among Competing Big South Teams

10/26/2021 7:32:00 PM

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Finishing ahead of four of the other five Big South teams competing in the Terrier Intercollegiate, Longwood climbed into eighth place on the final day of the three-round tournament hosted by Wofford at Carolina Country Club.

The Lancers mounted a team-wide charge in their final round with all five players finishing under 80 to jump one spot into the top half of the 17-team field and come in ahead of Big South rivals Winthrop, Gardner-Webb, UNC Asheville and Presbyterian. Only USC Upstate, which tied for third, performed better from the Big South contingent.

"I'm happy how we finished on the leaderboard," said Longwood head coach Brittany Dabule. "We didn't have our best stuff today, but we got the job done. Finishing ahead of four conference teams and jumping up one on the leaderboard, today was a good day and a successful finish in a solid tournament field."

Sparking that effort in a breezy final round at the par-72, 6,056-yard course was freshman Ester Choi, who had her best 18 of the tournament with a two-over 74 to finish tied for 26th overall at 76-78-74—228 (+12). That final round was good enough to tie for the 20th lowest in the 90-player field and Longwood's third-lowest round of the tournament.

On Longwood's team scorecard, Choi's performance trailed only sophomore ace Emma Landis, who finished tied for 16th overall with a 77-72-76—225 (+9). Her second-round 72 was Longwood's best round of the tournament and her second round at par or below this season. Following those two, senior Grace Huffman tied for 41st with an 83-74-75—232 (+16), sophomore Annabelle Jennings tied for 47th at 81-73-79-233 (+17) and senior Bobbi Uhl tied for 69th with a 79-83-79—241 (+25).

Longwood was at its best on the par three and par fours, carding the tournament's fifth-best scores on both of those at 3.25 and 4.33, respectively.

The Terrier Intercollegiate is the third of five fall tournaments for the Lancers, the next of which will be the two-day Grandover Fall Classic at Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
