Lancers Save Best for Last on Final Day at Edisto Island Invitational

Longwood Cards Lowest Score in Final Round of Three-Day Tournament

10/12/2021 3:40:00 PM

EDISTO BEACH, S.C. – Progression was once again the theme for Longwood women's golf on the final day of the Edisto Island Invitational, as the Lancers shaved six more strokes off their team score in the tournament's final round Tuesday at The Plantation Course at Edisto.

Building on Monday's six-stroke improvement from round one, the Lancers' counting five combined to shave four strokes off that second-round score and 10 total off their first-round performance to finish just eight-over as a team in the final round and 302-296-292—890 (+38) for the tournament.

Five of Longwood's eight participants put together their best rounds of the three-day outing Tuesday, with senior Diana Domenech carding a one-over 72, Peyton Schaffer and Bobbi Uhl matching two-over 73s, and Ester Choi and Annabelle Jennings three-over 74s. Domenech's 72 was Longwood's best round of the day and tied for the eighth-best third-round of the entire 68-player field.

"I'm very happy with how everyone played today," said Longwood third-year head coach Brittany Dabule. "We finished very strong, which was great to see, considering some didn't start off too well. Really our team just hung in there, came back and finished their rounds well. Overall our scores were strong for the tournament, and we have a lot to build off going forward."

Uhl and Schaffer also put together two of the tournament's five eagles, with Uhl's coming on the par-5 hole 10 in Monday's second round, and Schaffer's coming Tuesday on the same hole.

Leading the Lancer contingent for a second straight tournament was sophomore Emma Landis, whose 74-72-75—221 (+8) earned her a tie for 22nd place overall. Domenech followed in 26th place with her bounce-back 76-74-72—222 (+9), while Uhl also logged a top-30 finish at 76-75-73—224 (+11).

As a team, the Lancers finished the tournament in seventh place, coming in ahead of Oakland, Morehead State, William & Mary and The Citadel.

With two of their five fall tournaments now in the books, the Lancers will have two weeks to prepare for the Terrier Intercollegiate hosted by Wofford College on Oct. 25-26 at the Carolina Country Club in Spartanburg, S.C.
