Lancers Complete Strongest Showing Of Fall Season

Three Flight Titles Brought Home By Men’s Tennis

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – In a tournament where they asserted their dominance from the start, Longwood men's tennis brought home three separate flight championships Sunday from the Navy Gold Invitational at the U.S. Naval Academy.

Already guaranteed at least one title in singles play, two more Lancers delivered to bring home the second and third championships out of the four total draws.

After posting strong 2-0 performances Friday and Saturday, the red-hot tandem of Amadeo Blasco/Raisei Sakai took the doubles title with a 7-6(6) score over Princeton's Luke Gamble/Kabir Sarita for the first championship of the day.

Blasco followed his doubles performance with a 6-4, 6-4 straight-set decision over Gamble in singles play while fellow sophomore Arthur Bardellotto took down his doubles partner Julian Farthing 6-1, 6-2 for the third and final Lancer title in Flight B singles.

The Bardellotto-Farthing match was the third time Lancers were pitted against one another over the weekend as the team finished with a collective 33-10 record across singles and doubles play.

Joining Blasco, Bardellotto and Sakai in the win column Sunday were seniors Jorge Godoy and Lachlan Manser – who took the third-place match and consolation draw of Flight C singles – and freshman Daniel Hernandez, who took the fifth-place match in Flight B singles.

Hernandez battled for a full-set tiebreak as he took down Sebastian Quiros from Binghamton 6-1, 2-6, 13-11 while Godoy took care of St. Peter's Ivan Knezevic 6-2, 7-6(4) and Manser capped off the consolation draw thanks to a 6-7, 7-5, 11-9 tiebreak against Loyola's Charlie Shanker.

The valiant weekend wraps-up the fall season for men's tennis as they'll hit the court for the spring-opener Feb. 3 at the annual Mary Washington Invitational with matches against the host Eagles and Howard Bison.
