The Opening Tip
•    Longwood returns to Willett Hall Friday to host Salem International for the first of Longwood's two non-Division I opponents this season.
•    The Lancers are coming off a near-upset of Stephen F. Austin on ESPN2 this past Tuesday in which they were tied 57-57 in the final two minutes with the reigning Southland Conference champions on their home court. The Lumberjacks eventually pulled away with a 9-3 run over the final 1:06.
•    The game will be Longwood's third this week after opening the season Sunday against Maine and facing Stephen F. Austin on the road Tuesday.
•    Friday's game brings back former Longwood assistant coach Adam Williams, now in his first year as head coach at Salem International. Williams was a member head coach Jayson Gee's staff in 2015-16 and is also the son of Hall of Fame coach Tex Williams, who coached Gee at the University of Charleston.

Last Time Out
•    Led by 21 points and 14 rebounds from forward T.J. Holyfield, Stephen F. Austin pulled away in the final minute to spoil Longwood's upset bid, 66-60, on ESPN2 as part of the ESPN College Tip-Off Marathon. The win extended Stephen F. Austin's home-court win streak to 28 games.
•    The upset-minded Lancers overcame a nine-point second-half deficit and battled the Lumberjacks to a 57-57 deadlock with 1:06 remaining before Leon Gilmore hit a go-ahead tip-in that sparked a game-clinching 9-3 run.
•    Stephen F. Austin hit nine of its final 10 free throws in the final 2:02 and forced Longwood into four straight empty possessions to ice the win.
•    Isaiah Walton led Longwood with 15 points, Darrion Allen added 12 and Isaac Belton poured in 11 and hit three three-pointers off the bench in one of the best performances of his four-year career.

By The Numbers
•    The Lancers engineered dramatic turnarounds on both ends of the court between the season opener against Maine and Tuesday's game against Stephen F. Austin. After shooting just .386 (22-of-47) from the floor against Maine, Longwood shot .469 (23-of-49) against Stephen F. Austin. After Maine shot .417 (30-of-72) from the floor and committed just seven turnovers, Longwood held SFA to a .388 (19-of-49) clip and forced 23 turnovers.
•    The 23 turnovers the Lancers forced Tuesday were Longwood's most since forcing Penn State Beaver into 26 on Dec. 20, 2014.
•    Newcomer Isaiah Walton leads the Lancers in scoring (15.5 ppg.), steals (5), made free throws (7) and free throw percentage (.875, 7-of-8). He has scored in double figures in each of his first two games with multiple steals in both those contests.
•    Guard Darrion Allen leads all Lancers with 14 rebounds and 7.0 boards per game. The 6-2, 176-pound senior averaged 3.8 rebounds last season and has seven rebounds in each of his first two games in 2016-17.
•    Both Walton and Allen rank among the Big South's top 10 in scoring.
•    Guard Kendrick Thompson has assumed point guard duties with a season-ending injury to freshman Juan Munoz. Thompson has taken to the role with nine assists and just two turnovers in his first two games, ranking third in the BIg South in assists per game and second with a 4.5 assist-to-turnover ratio.
•    Longwood's five-player lineup of Darrion Allen, Damarion Geter, Khris Lane, Kendrick Thompson and Isaiah Walton have spent 24:58 on the floor together through Longwood's first two games, more time than any other five-player combination head coach Jayson Gee has deployed this season. Those five made up Longwood's starting lineup for the first time in this past Tuesday's near-upset of Stephen F. Austin.
