Longwood ZTA Wins Greek Life Spirit Challenge

Zeta Tau Alpha Takes Top Prize for Greek Life & Athletics Challenge

FARMVILLE, Va. – After a year-long competition partnering with Longwood Fraternity and Sorority Life, Zeta Tau Alpha has been officially declared the Greek Life Spirit Challenge Champions for the 2014-15 academic school year.

The Greek Life Spirit Challenge was a competition created by Longwood Athletics to encourage the social fraternities and sororities to attend the sporting events. Partnering with Longwood Fraternity and Sorority Life, the competition took place for over seven "Greek Nights" that spanned throughout the year. These nights included opportunities such as sober tailgates prior each game where participants could sign in and earn points, as well as a chance to earn social media points by sharing the event on their chapter's account.

The points collected were posted on the LongwoodLancers.com under the Greek Life Spirit Challenge Scoreboard. Each chapter was required to earn a minimum chapter attendance of 35 percent to be eligible to score points. The chapter with the highest percent attendance received a donation to their philanthropy on behalf of the Lancer Lunatics, the official student fan group for Longwood Athletics.

"The office of Fraternity and Sorority Life is proud of the work that our three governing councils, athletics, and all our organizations put forth this year to make their presence and energy felt in the athletic and Longwood community," said Wolfgang Acevedo, Associate Director for Fraternity and Sorority Life, "FSL student groups have proven what I already knew, and that is that they are a vital and integral part of the Longwood family. I look forward to the continued partnership between Longwood athletics and the councils to support our athletics programs."

Following Zeta Tau Alpha's 37 accumulated points, second place went to Kappa Delta with 19 points. Sigma Nu took third with 17 points. The top three finishers for the Greek Life Spirit Challenge will receive special prizes for their respected chapter and will be recognized at halftime of The G.A.M.E. 6.0 this upcoming August at the start of the school year.

Steve Robertson, the Assistant Director for Athletics Marketing who assisted with creation of the Greek Life Spirit Challenge said, "I am truly thankful for the help we received from the three governing councils and their presidents I was fortunate enough to work with. They played a major role in seeing this vision through and I cannot wait for this to be bigger and better next year."
