The Opening Tip• Longwood's 2015-16 regular season tips off Friday as the Lancers host ODAC member Randolph for a 7 p.m. bout in Willett Hall.
• Randolph will be Longwood's second straight ODAC foe after hosting Hampden-Sydney in preseason action on Nov. 7.
• Longwood returns four of five starters from its 2014-15 Big South semifinal squad but will be shorthanded for the season opener. Redshirt senior PG
Tra'Vaughn White is questionable with a foot injury, leaving Longwood to rely on redshirt freshman
Bryan Gee to run the point. Gee scored five points with three assists and two turnovers in 32 minutes against Hampden-Sydney Saturday.
• Friday will be "Salute to Service" night with free admission to those with a military ID and free "high and tight" haircuts provided by Longwood Theta Chi.
Last Time Out• In front of a sellout crowd in Willett Hall this past Saturday, junior
Darrion Allen recorded his first career double-double to key a 71-68 exhibition win over neighboring Hampden-Sydney.
• The 6-2, 170-pound Allen scored a team-high 15 points and added a career-high 11 rebounds across a team-high 38 minutes. Allen shot 5-of-9 from the floor and 5-of-6 from the free throw line while adding three steals.
• Allen helped overcome a 28-point effort from NJIT transfer Jake Duncan, who hit 8-of-13 treys as Hampden-Sydney's lone double-digit scorer.
• Redshirt sophomore forward
Khris Lane added eight points and 12 rebounds in his Longwood debut, while
Kanayo Obi-Rapu scored 13 points, and freshman
Chris Shields added 10 points in 10 minutes.
By The Numbers• Longwood is 1-1 in season-openers under head coach
Jayson Gee. The Lancers took down Averett, 79-53, at home in last year's opener after falling, 82-44, at South Carolina in 2013-14. Longwood is 2-6 in season openers in the Division I era.
• Longwood is 2-0 in home openers under Gee. Longwood defeated Mars Hill, 88-70, in the 2013-14 opener. Longwood is 4-4 in home openers in the Division I era.
• Gee received two National Letters of Intent on Wednesday's Signing Day, welcoming North Carolina PG Juan Munoz and Ohio G/F Isaiah Walton to the program. Munoz averaged 20.3 points and 5.3 assists as a junior at Panther Creek High School last season, while Walton redshirted his freshman season at UC Davis in 2014-15 and is currently playing at Iowa Western.
• Longwood was picked as high as fourth in the Big South according to preseason rankings by several publications. NBC Sports, Blue Ribbon Yearbook and MidMajorMadness.com all picked the Lancers to finish fourth in the conference, while the Big South media pegged Longwood sixth.
• Longwood returns all but one starter — PG
Quincy Taylor — from last season's Big South semifinal squad. The Lancers bring back nine letterwinners who make up 65.8 percent of the scoring and 83.5 percent of the rebounding from last year's squad.
• Last season's Longwood team ranked second in the Big South with 270 steals and fourth with 505 forced turnovers. Longwood's 270 steals ranked 15th nationally.
• Longwood's roster includes a five-member senior class, three of whom were starters from last season's squad.
• In the preseason exhibition against Hampden-Sydney, Longwood's bench contributed 23 points. Boosting that total was freshman
Chris Shields, who scored 10 points in 10 minutes. All 10 of Shields' points came in the second half.
