EMMITSVILLE, Md. - The Longwood men's tennis team captured three singles wins to go along with two doubles victories, as the Lancers earned a 4-3 victory over Mount St. Mary's Sunday in fall tennis action at the Mt. Mary's Tennis Courts.
The Lancers beat the Mountaineers in two out of three doubles matches. The tandem of Alfonso Castellano and Julian Farthing topped Austin Blake and Mateo DeSomocurcio 8-7, while the Mountaineer duo of Louis Tonon and Brandon Wortkotter earned an 8-2 win over Florian Uffer and Lachlan Manser. The Lancers captured their second doubles win of the afternoon with Bharani Sankar and Rosen Ilchev's 8-6 victory over Darren Mast and Peter Salomon.
In singles, Longwood got wins from Castellano, Uffer and Farthing. Castellano defeated Blake 6-2, 6-2, while Uffer beat DeSomocrucio 6-1, 6-1. Farthing topped Tonon 6-3, 6-2 for his seventh singles victory of the fall.
Mast earned a victory over Manser (6-0, 6-2), while Salomon bested Sankar in three sets (6-4, 3-6, 10-8). In addition, Wortkotter defeated Ilchev, 6-4, 6-3.
The Lancers return to action Friday, Oct. 30, for their final tournament this fall at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, S.C.
