FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University men's tennis team was defeated, 7-0, by in-state and Big South Conference opponent Radford University (3-11, 3-4 BSC) on Saturday afternoon at the Lancer Courts in Farmville. The Lancers were led by junior
Daniel Elston/St. Austell, Cornwall, England and senior
Edward Becker/Sydney, Australia, who secured the squad's lone victory in doubles play. Longwood (1-15, 0-7 BSC) will resume play on Tuesday, April 8 against Norfolk State University for a 1:30 p.m. match in Farmville.
"We are still struggling to find the balance in our games," said head coach
Jakob Gustafsson. "We had a few courts clicking today, but we caught Radford on a good day. They are hitting their stride and will be a force to be reckoned with at the conference tournament. We have Senior Day coming up very soon and need to get everyone's game on the same page by then."
Elston and Becker played in the No. 1 position for the Lancers in doubles play, securing an 8-1 victory over Radford's Janken Theon and Aymeric Autones. Longwood's remaining two pairs then faced setbacks, however, as freshman
Warren Bryan/Greensboro, N. C. and sophomore
James Fudge/Kaarst dropped an 8-3 decision at No. 2, while sophomore classmates
Justin Higgs/Nassau, Bahamas and
Bharani Sankar/Glen Allen fell 8-4 at No. 3.
