FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood returns to Mid-American Conference (MAC) play at noon on Sunday afternoon at Central Michigan.
The contest marks the second all-time meeting between the Lancers and Chippewas, with Longwood winning the only previous meeting. The Lancers and Chippewas are fighting for one of four playoff spots in the MAC Championships. Longwood currently sits 1-2 in MAC play, good for fifth, while Central Michigan is one of four schools at 1-0 in conference play.
Second Time EverLongwood and Central Michigan played the only previous meeting in the series back in 2009. The game was played as a neutral-site contest in Muncie, Ind. Longwood came away with a 1-0 victory, after a goal just five minutes into game.
Playoff ImplicationsSunday's game could have huge playoff implications for the blue and white. At 1-2 in MAC play, Longwood needs every win it can find over the last three conference contests. Last year, 3-3 was the mark of the fourth-place team. For Longwood, that makes Sunday's game everything but a must-win; the Lancers have a chance to even their conference record and gain an important head-to-head win over a Chippewas squad that figures to be right in the thick of the playoff race.
Up NextLongwood returns to Farmville on Friday, Oct. 10 to host the top-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels.
